This center is primarily dedicated to researching theoretical and practical issues in the field of news and information dissemination within the Himalayan region. It aims to build a platform for academic research and media collaboration among countries in the broader Himalayan area, fostering information exchange, cultural understanding, and people-to-people connections across different nations.

Since its establishment, the center has attracted scholars and experts from various regions and countries including China, Nepal, Bhutan, the United States, India and more. It has forged long-term partnerships with Chinese universities and academic institutions in the Pan-Himalayan region. Currently, under the support of the School of Public Management at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), the center offers UESTC postgraduate scholarships to students from related countries in the region and conducts short-term student exchange programs.
