Call for Papers
The Himalayan region is home to diverse civilizations, manifold ecologies, and a large population. Countries in this area are not only proximate in geography, they harbor multiple ethnic groups who live in harmony and exhibit strong cultural ties. Countries in this region also share similar characteristics in the process of modernization. Over the past decade or so, Trans-Himalaya cooperation has made rapid strides as part of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. Scholars and practitioners of these countries have deepened their cooperation, built consensus, and established a Trans-Himalaya community with a shared future—one that grows in vitality. Currently, countries in the Himalayan region face a series of common challenges in areas such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, water resources protection, poverty reduction, and regional security. These problems threaten human livelihoods and peaceful development in the region, and urgently require cooperative governance by diverse cross-national entities.
In the context of the rapid development of information and communication technology, it is necessary for countries in the Himalayan region to transcend political, economic, cultural, and social differences, and work toward building a common communication platform. This platform is vital for information sharing, interactive discussions, and building of consensus and cooperation by collaborative integration of material and intellectual resources. Further, this platform can provide the springboard to take effective and timely collaborative action.
To promote the development of the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative and to work toward peace and stability in the Himalayan region in the digital age, The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China & Kathmandu University Pan-Himalayan Communication Research Center will hold the 2nd Trans-Himalaya Communication and Social Development Conference in Kathmandu, Nepal from October 2nd to 4th in 2024.
